Coffee and Bible Time - create a meaningful morning ritual in 2024

Coffee and Bible

My Coffee and Bible Journey Through Scripture

I've gotta tell you, there's nothing quite like the combo of a steaming cup of joe and the Good Book to kick off my day. It's become such a ritual for me that my friends jokingly call it my "Coffee and Bible Time." And you know what? I wear that badge with pride.

I am an avid coffee drinker, think Gilmore Girls avid coffee drinker, but my favorite time of the day is when I make a steaming cup of hot coffee and I sit down in scripture. I am not sure what it is about this habit that I have created, but I love it and it really starts my day off right.

Bibles

Let's chat about Bibles for a sec. I've gone through my fair share, and I've got some favorites that I always recommend to folks looking to start their own Coffee and Bible Time routine. The Life Application Study Bible has been my ride-or-die for years. It's got so many helpful notes and cross-references that I sometimes feel like I'm cheating at Bible study. But hey, we all need a little help sometimes, right? But I also love to read and journal in the She Reads Truth Bible and cross reference with my life application Bible because sometimes I will understand things better in one translation over the other.

For those days when I'm feeling a bit more adventurous, I listen to the Bible (its easier to drink my coffee this way too). Now, I know some people get their feathers ruffled over having the Bible read to you, but hear me out. Sometimes, listening to someone read a familiar passage to you can make you see it in a whole new light. It's like when you try a new route to work and suddenly notice all these cool buildings you've been driving past for years.

Oh, and don't even get me started on my journaling Bible. I like to pair this with my FREE study guides for every chapter of the Bible. It's become a work of art, filled with notes, doodles, and coffee stains that tell the story of my faith journey. There's something so personal about writing your thoughts right there on the page, next to the verses that inspired them.

COFFEE

Now, let's talk coffee. I'm kind of a coffee snob (aren't we all these days?), but I've found my perfect match in a wonderful company called Peets Coffee. When I tell you that I use their coffee beans in our Breville Espresso Machine, for pour over coffee, and a simple drip machine and they all taste amazing, I am telling you the truth!

I stumbled upon Peets Coffee while on a family trip out to California, and it was love at first sip. Their Breakfast Blend is my go-to for those mornings when I need an extra boost to tackle some heavy theology. But on days when I'm diving into Psalms or Proverbs, I opt for their smooth Vine & Walnut Autumn blend (its especially great for this time of year). It's like they've crafted the perfect coffee for every book of the Bible!

One thing I've learned through this journey is that consistency is key. Some days, I'm so into my reading that I barely touch my coffee. Other days, I'm more focused on staying awake than on the words on the page. But you know what? That's okay. The important thing is showing up, cup in hand, ready to learn and grow.

I've had my fair share of mishaps along the way. Like the time I accidentally used my Bible as a coaster (don't judge, it was early and I was tired). Or when I got so excited about a revelation I had while reading that I knocked my entire mug over onto my lap. Ouch! But these little fumbles just make the whole experience more real, more human.

So, whether you're a seasoned pro at combining caffeine and Scripture, or you're just thinking about giving it a try, I encourage you to find your own rhythm. Experiment with different Bibles, try out new coffee blends, and don't be afraid to make it your own. After all, Coffee and Bible Time is about nourishing your body and soul in a way that works for you.

And who knows? Maybe one day you'll find yourself writing your own blog post about your favorite Bibles and coffee company!
