Make Sourdough Pizza Dough - Bread Machine (Super simple and quick!)

Sourdough pizza dough

Have you ever wondered "what's for dinner tonight?" and thought to yourself... maybe we will just order pizza? Well, I have done this and thought this many times, and then decided, why don't I just make this myself? This is how I came up with the Sourdough Pizza Dough in the bread machine!

It is so much fun to get the family together and roll out some pizza dough, throw pepperoni on the pizza, and have everyone make their own pizza! We tend to grill our pizzas on the grill, but the goal is to eventually get a pizza oven. This will also work if you're out camping this summer. The best part about this recipe? You can throw it all in the bread machine and come back to it whenever your ready to roll it out and use it!

Sourdough Pizza Dough Recipe (in the bread machine)

Ingredients:

  • 150 grams active sourdough starter
  • 500 grams all-purpose or bread flour
  • 300 grams water (lukewarm)
  • 10 grams salt
  • 15 grams olive oil (optional for added flavor and texture)

Instructions:

  • Activate Your Starter:
  • Ensure your sourdough starter is active and bubbly. Feed it about 4-6 hours before you plan to start making the dough.
  • Mix the Dough:
    • In the bread machine, put all of the ingredients in and select the "dough" setting on your machine.
  • Bulk Fermentation:
    • Once the bread machine has went through its whole mixing cycle, all you have to do is leave it for 4-12 hours (depending on the temperature of your house) the warmer your house is, the quicker it will double in size, and the colder your house is, the longer it will take. You are looking for the dough to double.
  • Prepare to Bake:
    • Preheat your oven to the highest temperature possible, ideally around 500°F (260°C). If you have a pizza stone or steel, place it in the oven to preheat as well.
  • Shape the Pizza:
    • After the dough has doubled in size, go ahead and divide the dough into 2-3 equal pieces
    • On a lightly floured surface, gently stretch each dough ball into a pizza shape. Avoid using a rolling pin; instead, use your hands to gently push the dough from the center outwards, allowing it to stretch naturally.
  • Top and Bake:
    • Transfer the shaped dough to a piece of parchment paper or a pizza peel dusted with flour or cornmeal.
    • Add your desired toppings.
    • Slide the pizza onto the preheated stone or baking sheet and bake for 8-12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the toppings are cooked to your liking.
  • Enjoy:
    • Remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a couple of minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy your homemade sourdough pizza!

This sourdough pizza dough recipe will give you a deliciously tangy and chewy crust, perfect for all your favorite pizza toppings.
