Dutch Baby - The perfect morning breakfast!
This is the perfect recipe if you have extra eggs that you want to use up, but do not want to be stuck to the stove while making pancakes in the morning. I love to quickly make this up while my kids are getting around in the morning and it's the perfect protein-packed breakfast that takes little effort and little time!
Dutch Baby
Ingredients:
-
- 3 large eggs
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup milk
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
- Fresh fruit for topping (such as berries or sliced peaches), (optional)
- Maple syrup or honey, for serving (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Place a 10-inch cast-iron skillet or oven-safe skillet in the oven while it preheats.
- In a blender (I use my Nutri blender), blend the eggs, flour, milk, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until well combined and smooth. The batter will be thin.
- Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven using oven mitts. Add the butter to the skillet and swirl it around until melted and coating the bottom of the skillet evenly.
- Quickly pour the batter into the hot skillet. Return the skillet to the oven and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the Dutch Baby is puffed up and golden brown around the edges.
- Once baked, remove the Dutch Baby from the oven and let it cool in the skillet for a minute or two. It will deflate slightly as it cools.
- Dust the Dutch Baby with powdered sugar (I use a sieve to get an even coating of powdered sugar), if desired. You can also top it with fresh fruit and drizzle with maple syrup or honey.
- Slice the Dutch Baby into wedges and serve immediately while still warm.
Notes:
**Make sure that your skillet is HOT when pouring the batter into it, this is essential for a nice and puffy Dutch baby!
